Working together to tackle racism across the North East

NHS North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB) has joined organisations from across the region in strengthening its commitment to tackling racism and creating a fairer, more inclusive North East.

On Wednesday 7 October, the ICB hosted a health and wellbeing roundtable, bringing together partners to discuss the findings of the Exposing Racism in the North East report, published by the North East Anti-Racism Coalition (NEARC) and Newcastle University in September.

The roundtable provided an opportunity for organisations to consider how they can work more closely together to tackle racism, antisemitism and other forms of religious hatred.

A key outcome was a shared commitment to closer partnership working across local authorities, education, mayoral authorities, the police and the NHS.

At the event, the ICB and Great North Healthcare Alliance also joined the Become the Bridge campaign, joining more than 150 organisations across the region that have publicly committed to challenging racism and helping to build a fairer and stronger North East.

While there is more work to do, the roundtable marked an important step in bringing organisations together and strengthening collective action across the region.
